Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While competing in online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world could be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
