Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
