Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved taking part in different card games when he was young. He found himself getting really competitive in these particular card games while playing his father. The definite improvement in his game began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would regularly challenge each other. Howard was able to access a few of the foremost minds in chess. He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker world today. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
