Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While wagering on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
