Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
