Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
