Online poker has become world acclaimed lately, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game shows. The games popularity, though, stretches back in reality a bit farther than its television scores. Over the years many variants on the original poker game have been created, including a few games that are not in fact poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these particular games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely related to 21 than old guard poker, in that the players bet against the bank rather than the other players. The succeeding hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is little concealment or other types of deception. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up before the dealer announcing "No more bets." At that instance, both you and the casino and of course every one of the other gamblers are given 5 cards each. After you have observed your hand and the bank’s first card, you must either make a call wager or give up. The call bet’s value is akin to your original wager, indicating that the risks will have doubled. Giving Up means that your bet goes immediately to the house. After the wager comes the showdown. If the dealer doesn’t have ace/king or greater, your bet is returned, including an amount equal to the ante. If the house has a hand with ace/king or greater, you succeed if your hand beats the casino’s hand. The casino pays cash even with your ante and fixed odds on your call bet. These odds are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • two to one for 2 pairs
  • three to one for 3 of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • five to one for a flush
  • seven to one for a full house
  • 20-1 for a four of a kind
  • fifty to one for a straight flush
  • 100-1 for a royal flush
