Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
