Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha hi/low starts just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some players get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly three cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same approach in almost every poker game.
A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
Although it seems complex at the start, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting range of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals trying for the high hand, along with several shooting for the low hand. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to play Omaha/8.
