Pai Gow Poker is a modern game with old ancestry. Based on the old Chinese domino game and the modern American adaptation of poker, Pai Gow poker combines the far east with the wild west in a wonderful game for beginner level players.
Pai Gow is a poker game that pits the player vs. the croupier, unlike most other poker games that players play against other gamblers. By wagering against the dealer, beginning players do not have to be concerned about any other, more advanced people winning their moolla.
Another Pai Gow edge is the relatively leisurely game play, novices are able to take their time and strategize while not having to make frenzied choices.
It is also much simpler to play for an extended time with just a small amount of money after all, to not win, each of your hands needs to be lower than both of the casino’s hands.
Pai Gow is played with 53 cards; the regular 52-card basic deck and one joker. The gambler is dealt 7 cards faces showing and the house is given 7 cards face down.
A 5 card hand and a 2 card hand need to be put together from the 7 cards, the five card hand has to be better than the two card hand. To succeed, a player is required to have both of his hand values to be larger than the dealer’s.
