Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
