Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While betting on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
