Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he liked gambling on various card games at a young age. He found himself getting really competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and moved to New York to participate in some serious chess. He made some additional money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. The definite advancement in his skills began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would frequently wager against one another. Howard was able to access several of the foremost minds in chess. He told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
