Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in popularity so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further round of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many players often get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in just about every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
Although it seems complex at first, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an amazing collection of wagering possibilities and because you have many players battling for the high hand, along with several trying for the low. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha hi lo.
