Poker has become world famous recently, with televised championships and celebrity poker game shows. Its popularity, though, stretches back in reality a bit further than its TV scores. Over the years many types on the original poker game have been developed, including some games that are not quite poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely resembling vingt-et-un than old guard poker, in that the gamblers wager against the dealer instead of each other. The winning hands, are the long-standing poker hands. There is no bluffing or different types of boondoggle. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up before the dealer saying "No more bets." At that instance, both you and the bank and of course every one of the other players are given 5 cards. Once you have looked at your hand and the casino’s 1st card, you have to either make a call bet or bow out. The call bet’s amount is akin to your original bet, which means that the stakes will have increased two fold. Abandoning means that your bet goes immediately to the dealer. After the bet is the showdown. If the dealer does not have ace/king or greater, your wager is given back, with a sum on par with the initial wager. If the bank does have ace/king or greater, you succeed if your hand defeats the bank’s hand. The casino pays out cash equal to your wager and controlled expectations on your call bet. These odds are:
- Equal for a pair or high card
- two to one for 2 pairs
- three to one for three of a kind
- 4-1 for a straight
- 5-1 for a flush
- seven to one for a full house
- twenty to one for a 4 of a kind
- fifty to one for a straight flush
- 100-1 for a royal flush
